

Lowell “Pooh” Edward Ashby, 80, of St. Cloud, FL, formerly of Evansville, went to be with the Lord and his family on Sunday, June 1, 2014, at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud FL. He was born Feb. 11, 1934 in Evansville, Ind., to the late Steward and Carma Ashby.
Lowell graduated from Reitz High School and from the University of Evansville. He was a Veteran of the Marines, serving during the Korean War. Lowell retired from the Social Security Administration where he had worked in the offices of Evansville, Harrisburg IL, Peoria IL, and Anderson IN. He was instrumental in the building of Christ Temple in Evansville and taught there as a young man. Lowell was also instrumental in the ministries of both of his children and their husbands in their churches in Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, and Evansville. Pooh’s gentle spirit and words of affirmation were the trademarks to his incredible life. He could fix anything from scrapes to computers, and cars to lawnmowers. He will be greatly missed and forever cherished by his family.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Thelma Tyler, Marcella Bristow, Margie Konopka, and brothers, Rev. Harold Ashby, and Bobby Hall.
He is survived by his wife, Mattie Marie (Patty); children, Cynthia (Rev. Terry) McFarland, of Gilford, Northern Ireland., Kathy (Rev. Kerry) Davis of Evansville.; sister, Rev. Shirley (Rev. William) Thomas of Evansville, and brother, Mason (Shirley) Ashby of Floyd Knob. Pooh’s greatest fans were his beloved grandchildren, Shawna (Mark) Cary of Canada, Nathanael (Gillaine) Davis of Evansville, Ashley McFarland (fiancé Joel Castillo of the Dominican Republic) of Northern Ireland, Hannah (William) Hastie of Evansville, Matthew Davis of Evansville, and Caleb McFarland of Northern Ireland. Pooh was also the proud Great Grandfather of Liam Davis Hastie, Lincoln Emerson Davis, and Aven Mac Cary.
Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 8, 2014, at Christ Temple, 1401 S. Weinbach Ave., Rev. Terry McFarland and Rev. Kerry Davis officiating, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Christ Temple.
