Mabel A. Collins, 101, of Evansville, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2020, at Deaconess Midtown. She was born on October 24, 1918 in Pleasant Shade, Tennessee to the late William and Earsie (Gammon) Gregory.
Mabel attended Washington Avenue Church of Christ. She was a member of the Deaf Association of Evansville. Mabel enjoyed sewing, reading, quilting, fishing and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. She played high school basketball and baseball.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Stafford H. Collins; grandson, Randall G. Collins, Jr.; half-brother, W.C. Gregory; and sisters, Willie Jay Sallee and Reddie A. Cox.
Mabel is survived by her son, Randall Collins, Sr. of MA; daughter, Betty J. Wilson (BJ) of IN; granddaughters, Rhonda Ackerman (David) of FL, Jeanie Novak of IN; grandson, Shane Bucherl of IN; half-brother, Carl Gregory of VA; 9 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Pastor Alan Bush, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
By the family’s request, visitors are asked to wear masks.
