

Margaret Mary Elfreich, 93, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at Columbia Healthcare. She was born July 5, 1923, in East St. Louis, IL to the late Clark and Aurelia (Smith) Purcell.
She graduated from Central High School and worked at Briggs during WWII inspecting ammunition for fighter aircraft. She was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2953 Women’s Auxiliary. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and a wonderful friend to many. She was a gardener, loved to crochet, and loved to play games with her grandchildren. We “love you a bushel and a peck”.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Elfreich; sisters, Ruth Keohane, Catherine Axton; brothers, Joseph, James and George Purcell; and son-in-law, Gary Henning.
She is survived by her son, David (Judy) Elfreich; daughter, Donna Henning; and several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 11:30 AM Monday, January, 30, 2017, at Sunset Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Ferd Elfreich. Friends may visit Sunday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Alexander West Chapel.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nursing staff and aides at Columbia Healthcare Center. They are very special people who gave Margaret loving care.
