Marilyn graduated from Central High School in 1949. She was first employed by Swift and Company. After starting and raising a family, Marilyn returned to the work force as Office Manager for Don Hazeltine and Dick Shepard’s Southern Indiana Operating Company.
On June 17, 1951 Marilyn was married to Gilbert W. Smith at Parke Memorial Church where she was an active member and Sunday School Teacher. Marilyn later moved with her family to St Paul’s United Church of Christ on Twelfth Avenue and Michigan Street. During this time, she continued to teach Sunday School and became a leading member in Family Fellowship.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Gil of 60 years, her parents and toddler brother, Jerry Head of Dale, IN. She is survived by her two sons, Timothy M. Smith and Angela Gore, Dr. David B. Smith and wife Sarah R. Smith; grandsons, Zachary W. Smith of Jacksonville, FL and Luke A. Smith.
Marilyn loved her family very much-they were everything to her, especially her grandsons. A special joy for her was her dog, Kringle. Marilyn and Gil were avid concert goers. They never missed a concert where at least one of their sons was performing.
