Family was of the utmost importance to Mark. He was very invested and involved in his son's and grandchildren's lives, whether it was academics, athletics, fine arts, etc. Mark loved to fish and hunt with his buddy, Eddie, who was like the brother Mark never had. He was always the first to volunteer to burn anything in the firepit. Mark's family is very thankful for his friends, Warner for always bringing him home in Old Blue when Mark couldn't walk home anymore, Millie for always being available to help in any way, and Lynda for providing him his favorite german potato salad.
He was preceded in death by his parents; cousin, Michael Koonce; aunt, Ruth Koonce; niece, Melissa Ramsey; and other cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Mark is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Peggy Rettig; son, Scott Rettig (Emily); grandchildren, Benjamin Rettig (Si) and Julianna Rettig; sister, Barbara Gaisser; sister-in-law, Linda VanWay (Jerry); nieces, Julie Pace (Charlie), Jennifer Cross (David), and Lisa; nephews, Michael and Robbie Golden; several cousins; and all the many good friends he made at McDonald's on Rosenberger and at Chick-Fil-A West.
