

He was in the US Air Force and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He worked for US Airways for 20 years then worked for Rogers Jewelers until retiring in 1999. He belonged to the West Side Sportsman Club and enjoyed camping, fishing, and target shooting. He had a special bond with his youngest daughter, Piper, who cared for him during his hospice care.
Marvin was preceded in death by his aunt and uncle who raised him, Ray and Oleafa Bates; and his brother, Charles Ron Bates.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Denise; daughters, Piper (Harold) Blackard, Rachel Dudley both of Evansville, IN, Laura (Randy) Williams of New Albany, IN, and Jennifer (Andy) Wasserzugg of Lexington, KY; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Phil Hoy, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Friday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
