

Mary Kathryn (Kay) Potter Klipsch of Evansville, Indiana passed away on September 5, 2025 at the age of 97. She was born on January 11, 1928 in southwestern Indiana and raised on a farm outside Winslow, Indiana that had been in the family for four generations.
Mary Kay and her husband James were happily married for 66 years, being blessed with six children. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.
Mary Kay and James were actively involved in their church community in Evansville and Oakland City, where she was always a member of the choir, as well as a Sunday School teacher and member of many committees and programs.
A graduate of Ball State University, Mary Kay began a long and successful career as a teacher in Huntington, Indiana, that included positions in Gibson, Posey, and Pike Counties. She spent the majority of her career at various schools in the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation. A union supporter, Mary Kay was a member of the Evansville Teacher’s Association and served as a representative to the Indiana Extension Homemakers Association. She also received national recognition during her teaching career.
In 1970, at a time when being a stay-at-home mom was more the norm, Mary Kay earned her Master’s degree in Business Education from the University of Evansville - the same year she gave birth to her sixth child.
Mary Kay is preceded in death by her husband, James Russell Klipsch; her son, Thomas Keith Klipsch; grandson, William Jacob Majors Klipsch; her parents, Preston and Ruth (Withers) Potter, and her sisters Helen Harmon and June Clark.
Mary Kay is survived by her children, John P. (Connie), Dana J. (Lillian), Teresa J. Sharp, Theodore P. (Monique), and Andrew T. (Melanie); son-in-law, Joe Cowherd; ten grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; her sister, Donna (Conrad) Stinson; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, September 13, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. CT at Alexander East Funeral Home, 2115 Lincoln Ave. in Evansville.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. CT at Trinity United Methodist Church, 216 SE 3rd St. in Evansville. Burial will be immediately following at Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City, Indiana. The service will be live-streamed at www.Facebook.com/FuneralStreamUSA.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff and residents at Greenwood Village Retirement Community in Greenwood, Indiana for their loving care and friendship the past five years during Mary Kay’s residence.
