Mary Kathrine Oakley

Mary Kathrine (Kathy) Oakley, 72, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Robin Run Village from complications of COPD. Kathy was born in Princeton, IN on February 18, 1947 to the late Orville and Lucille Jeffries. She attended F.J. Reitz High School before graduating from Riviera Beach High School in West Palm Beach, Fl. Kathy also attended beauty school in Evansville, IN. Kathy is survived by her husband of 28 years, Dr. Jerry Oakley of Indianapolis, IN; a sister, Cecelia Georlitz of San Francisco, CA; five nieces, Krista Broshears and Kendra Hoyt of Indianapolis, Mischelle Georlitz, Julia Georlitz, and Jana Gowen of San Francisco, CA. Kathy was a devoted Buddhist and had met her Dali Lama several times. She was sweet, kind, and never met a stranger. Kathy loved animals, especially her new Tibetan Terrier, “Tibby”. Kathy was also generous. She was a major contributor to the Indianapolis Zoo, Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation Scholarship Program, the Democrat Party, and several American and Asian food the needy charities. A brief memorial service will be held Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Alexander East Funeral Home in Evansville, IN at 1:00 p.m., followed by burial at Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Slaughters, KY. Friends may visit on Saturday 12:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. You are invited to attend and tell your favorite remembrances about Kathy.
