

MayBelle Barnes, 74, of Evansville, IN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at home, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Heart to Heart Hospice. Maybelle was born on January 31, 1951 in Evansville to the late George and Rosie Lee Thomas.
She was baptized, learned to play the piano and learned to sing in the church choir. MayBelle attended Central High School in Evansville. Shortly after, she met and married Freddie Lee Barnes Sr.
From that union, four children were born; Angela Renee, Lena Mae, Freddie Lee Barnes Jr. and Yolanda Faye Morris. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved, adored, and cherished her children.
MayBelle was a hard worker inside and out of her home. She had many passions, which included drawing, playing cards, singing, pampering herself by getting her hair and nails done, going to the casino, and traveling. She loved celebrating everyone’s birthday, where she was the life of the party. She also loved to cook. Her hot water cornbread, spaghetti, chili, and sweet potato pies were a family favorite and will be missed. MayBelle was such a kind, loving and very protective daughter, big sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She dearly loved her entire family.
She was preceded in death by her father, George; mother, Rosie; husband, Freddie; grandparents; daughters, Angela Renee and Lena Mae; grandsons, Lester Rogers Jr., Keyon’Ja Barnes, and Anthony Daniels; brothers, James, William, and Andre; sisters, Olivia and Patrice; and a host of uncles and aunts.
MayBelle is survived by the love of her life, Donald; son, Freddie Jr.; daughter, Yolanda Faye (Hurley); aunts, Tula Bell and Betty; brothers, Mario Thomas, and Adrien Wildy; sister, Angela Barnes (Kevin); sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; a host of nieces and nephews; 18 granddaughters; 27 grandsons; great- grandchildren; many cousins; and her favorite dog, boss Barnes.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at Memorial Baptist Church, 605 Canal St., Evansville, IN 47713, officiated by Rev. Adrian M. Brooks, Sr.
Friends and family may visit from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN 47714, and from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at Memorial Baptist Church.
