Mitsuko “Ginger” (Yamaguchi) Higgins, 88, of Evansville passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital. Mrs. Higgins, a native of Japan, was born in Fukuoka, Japan on January 11, 1933. She was a member of Christian Fellowship Church and was a long-time member of their All-City Bible Study. While working at Shiroi Air Force Base near Tokyo, she met her future husband, Larry, in 1956. They were married on May 29, 1959 in the American Embassy in Tokyo and relocated to Evansville. She received her American citizenship in 1964. Ginger also worked at Drucker’s and Sater’s Men’s Clothing Stores as a tailor/seamstress earlier in her marriage. She was a graduate of Kyo Ritsu All-Girls School in Tokyo. Ginger also attended Rogoku English School, Urawa Design and Dress-making School and the Urawa Flower Arrangement School. She is survived by her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren, Scott, Elissa, Emmalyn and Jillian Higgins of Evansville; a sister and brother-in-law, Masako and Noboru Takanashi of Tokyo; a brother, Aiesuke Yamaguchi of Sapporo, Japan; a nephew, Hidemi Takanashi of Tokyo; sisters-in-law, Linda Bowling and Gerri Scheu of Evansville. Ginger was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Higgins of Evansville, her father, Satoru Yamaguchi of Tokyo and her mother, Toshiko. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel at 2200 Mesker Park Dr., Evansville, IN, officiated by Rev. Dale Beaver. Burial will follow in the cemetery. Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois St. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be made either to the Evansville Food Bank or a local homeless shelter.
