She was born in New Harmony, Indiana, to Jesse Harold and Fossie Kathleen Craig on July 15, 1932. After the death of her mother, Sue was raised by her grandparents, George and Ada Craig. She was like a sister to all 11 children of the Craig family.
Sue worked for Welborn Hospital for 27 years as a unit secretary in oncology. While at Welborn she touched many lives and created laughter. She was well-known throughout the hospital by her nickname, “Rose Bud.” She stayed in touch with her Welborn friends yearly.
She loved traveling, meeting new people, reading, and classical music…but her main devotion was to her family and friends.
Sue was a member of Fairlawn United Methodist Church for a number of years and sang in the choir.
She and her late partner were volunteers for Riverpark Center in Owensboro and a member of River City Swingers Red Hat Society. She also was a member of a monthly card club for 48 years.
Sue treasured gatherings with family and friends and took many memorable snapshots.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 19 years, Clarence P. Evans, who was a retired Police Officer of the Evansville Police Department; her male companion for over 15 years, “Pike Bishop;” and several aunts and uncles.
Sue is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Schaar Born; son, Steve Schaar, and wife, Roxie; step-children, Wayne Evans, Janice Heuring, Randy Evans, Mark Evans, and Sara Evans; grandchildren, Monica Christensen (Wade), Paul Broerman (Krystal), Stephanie Majors (Josh), Suzanne Hall (Mike), Scott Schaar (Crystal) and Ross Ivy; step grandchildren, C. W. Heuring (Jody), Brad Heuring, Mark Heuring, David Evans (Julie), Jason Evans (Katrina), and Justin Evans; six great grandchildren; 11 step great grandchildren; and many cousins.
