I was privileged to know Phyllis through my sister, Connie. I heard of her special friendships from women like Connie. We only met a few times but each was meaningful. I recall Phyllis accompanying Connie and I on a Henderson home tour; we had lots of time to share fun memories and our cancer experiences. Phyllis was a true angel to my sister when Connie’s husband passed. I appreciated Phyllis’s joy and her support for tough situations. May God bring comfort and peace to her husband and all who love her.

Phyllis was an amazing, extraordinary lady. To know her was to love her. She is now in God’s hands, but she will forever be in our hearts. Ciao, Magistra. Until we meet again. Love you!🩷

Mrs. Hunt was an amazing person. She was an awesome teacher and an incredible lady. She made a huge difference in her students life while we were in her class and long after we left. She was a teacher that her students truly loved. I am so sorry for Hugh, her lifelong friend and love. You all were perfect together. Thank you Mrs. Hunt for making my life better and the world a better place.

Magistra Hunt was such a wonderful teacher. I have so many fond memories of Latin class.  I can still hear her voice in my mind saying, “This too shall pass” whenever life throws a challenge my way.  I feel so grateful to have known her.  ❤️

We called her Aunt Phyllis though she’s technically my second cousin. I’ve known her my whole life but got really close over the last 14 years or so. Lincoln hasn’t know life without her. She is the most kind, generous, thoughtful person I know. She was open minded and forward thinking. She loved kids and learning and books and crosswords and crochet and Christmas and the Cubs. You didn’t have to spend much time around her and “Uncle” Hugh to realize the love they had for each other. It was pure and true and an inspiration. Until her last day people commented on how sweet she was. She is and will be missed so much. It won’t be the same without our weekly drives to Henderson to see her. We will take care of Uncle Hugh until you are together again.

I met Phyllis in 1971 . We were both first year teachers at Henderson (City) High School. We were both foreign language teachers and became friends .  I taught with her for 37 years . We would travel together with students to district and state language competitions . We ate lunch together  each day. When we were both retired, we used to play weekly scrabble with a group of her church friends.  When some of our  teacher friends  retired , we started having monthly get-togethers . We called ourselves the # 1  Ladies (based on Alexander McCall Smith’s book) . Phyllis was such a cherished friend .

Phyllis was a fine person. She was an excellent teacher. Always friendly, very intelligent, and well loved by her colleagues. I can’t think of anything bad ever said about her.  May she rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear of Mrs. Hunt's passing.  Mrs. Hunt, or "Magistra Hunt" as she was known to me, was one of my favorite teachers throughout my educational journey.   She inspired me to travel through her slide presentations of her visits to Rome and gave me a place to be creative at our student Latin banquets.  She was a lot of fun and a phenomenal teacher. She made me feel like I belonged in Latin class when I really thought I didn't have the brains for it.   I know that she is one of the reasons that I am an educator today.   She was an amazing person!

It was a great honor having Magistra  Hunt as a teacher ant HCHS!  She was witty and very passionate about Latin! She for sure was a teacher that cared deeply for her students and their growth! As many have said, she made learning fun! She will be greatly missed!

My mother first spoke of Magistra as one of her favorite teaching colleagues when I was a young child. My brother was the first lucky one to have the pleasure of being her student and participating in the famous Toga parties.  I followed shortly after and also had the great fortune to have also been taught by her. My entire family loved her. The impact she had on me and so many, is immeasurable. She truly had a remarkable way of connecting with people and making them feel loved and important. She was invested in knowing and loving her students and sharing her passion of Roman history, culture, and the Latin language. There were some that said Latin was a "dead language," but I am here to say Magistra brought the language to life. You would walk into her room and be transported to Rome with colorful murals painted on her room walls. I still use Latin heavily today in my career of healthcare and am so grateful for Magistra instilling that foundational knowledge. I loved hearing her stories about traveling to Rome and her love of ranae (frogs). There will never be another Magistra. Sending so much love to her family and loved ones during this time. May she rest in eternal peace.

Mrs. Hunt was a very big part of my high school career/memories because I not only had her for Latin, I also was honored to be her teacher’s assistant my Senior year.  The bigger part of my memories, though, were spending time with her when she was our cheerleading coach/sponsor; she was awesome at that ‘task’ - she was patiently there for us, always ❤️  Heart felt condolences to all the family, but especially to you, Mr. Hunt - you all were always so precious together and a wonderful example of a loving marriage.
