Phyllis Anne Kincaid was a lifelong resident of Evansville, IN. She was born on April 2, 1936, and entered the eternal presence of Jesus on December 25, 2025. She completed her early years of school at Culver grade school, where her aunts were both teachers. At Reitz High School, she made many lifelong friends and enjoyed 4-H, orchestra, and cheering on the excellent Reitz sports teams.
Phyllis excelled at the cello and loved to play at church and different concerts and events throughout the community. She has special memories of playing for Harry Belafonte when he performed at the Mesker Amphitheater.
A music education major at Northwestern, she returned to Evansville to teach vocal music at Hebron and Plaza schools. Married to Robert Kincaid on July 12, 1958, she kept her hand in music – directing the Bethel Church choir and the Medical Melodies, a group of doctor’s wives who performed in the Evansville area.
After receiving her Master of Arts from U of E in 1974, she returned to the workforce, culminating in her position as Director of Youth Resources of Southwestern Indiana. Starting in 1987, Phyllis led Youth Resources for 15 years. In that time, she integrated community service with education – teaching students leadership skills, the joy of serving others and giving back to their schools and communities. Her firm belief is that the health of a community is measured by how it treats its children. Towards this end, Phyllis helped to create innovative youth based programs such as Teenpower Camp, Teen Advisory Council and the Evansville Youth Coalition.
In recognition of her time at Youth Resources, Phyllis received the Sagamore of the Wabash award, along with other honors such as induction into the EVSC Hall of Fame. Phyllis’s greatest honor, however, was knowing that Youth Resources continues to thrive, serving over 149,850 students since its inception.
Passion was a word that ran strongly throughout Phyllis’s life – in her work, her hobbies and interests, her love of family and friends, and her service to others.
She greatly enjoyed painting. She loved to travel and had many adventures in the US and around the world. Phyllis also spent many happy hours at the Evansville Duplicate Bridge Center where she became a masters bridge player.
She had many close friends who meant so much to her and were always willing to lend a helping hand. She also had a tremendous love for her family – daughters Sarah Kincaid and Anne Moore (Dave), son Daniel, and husband Bob, brother Chuck Nenneker (Kathy) and sister Sylvia Goodyear (Bob). In addition to her many nieces and nephews, Phyllis has three grandchildren – Joshua Moore (Emily), Neale Moore (Mariah) and Elizabeth Whitehead (Caleb) and was the very happy great grandmother for a little over a year to Wilson, son of Joshua and Emily. We will miss her smiling face and loving spirit terribly, but know that she is now renewing bonds with loved ones and making new friends in heaven.
