Robert Ed Chapman

Robert (Ed) Chapman, 83, of Evansville, passed away Monday, September 17, 2012; a resident of Evansville, Ed was born July 9, 1929 to Robert E. Chapman Sr. and Mae Lorene Chapman in Covington, Tennessee.

Ed was employed by Texas Gas Transmission Corporation, Owensboro, Kentucky in 1949, worked as a Gas Controller in Memphis Tennessee, transferred to Owensboro, Kentucky, where he worked as Director of Gas Control and Assistant to Vice President of Engineering, retiring in 1989.

In 1948 Ed met Olga Burnette, and they were married September 24, 1950.

Ed served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. After discharge, he returned to his previous employment with Texas Gas Transmission Corportation, attended Memphis University, Memphis, Tennessee and Kentucky Wesleyan College, Owensboro, Kentucky.

Ed was a member of Old North United Methodist Church, served on the Board of Trustees, Methodist Men’s Club, served as a Vessel Examiner in Flotilla 44, US Coast Guard Auxiliary for 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Ed is survived by Olga, his loving wife of 62 years; daughter, Diane Sellers; son-in-law, Ralph A. Sellers II; grandsons, Trey Sellers and wife Cas of Jersey City, New Jersey, Scott Sellers of Evansville; granddaughter, Shannon Dyess and husband Wayne of Spanish Fort, Alabama; great-grandchildren, Garrett and Baleigh;

brothers, Col. Mal Chapman of Fairfax, Virginia, Al Chapman and wife Virginia of Dyersburg, Tennessee; and many nieces , nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Family will receive friends at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road, Evansville, on Thursday, September 20, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and Friday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Old North UMC, 4100 Stringtown Road, Evansville. Funeral Services will be Friday at 10:00 AM at Old North United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Mike Monahan. Interment will be at Alexander Memorial Park, 2200 Mesker Park Drive, Evansville.
