Robert “Tony” A. Jarvis, 71, of Newburgh, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2015, surrounded by family, at Deaconess Gateway. He was born September 29, 1944, in Evansville, to the late James and Charlotte (McCaslin) Jarvis.
He was an over the road truck driver for many years, then became Owner/Operator of ME&T Trucking, LLC. As a youth he was voted the Connie Mack #1 City Best Baseball Catcher for West Side Little League. He helped his brother coach Howell Booster Club Pony League at Howell Park. Tony was a graduate of the 1962 class of Reitz High School where he was very proud that he played on the unscored on and undefeated football team in 1962. He was a longstanding member of VFW Post #1114 after his service in the Air Force during Vietnam. He was also a longtime volunteer of the Alert 551 CB club. He loved to talk on and also repair CB radios. He also loved all sports, especially football and baseball, and enjoyed fishing. Tony never met a stranger, and loved to talk and joke with people. His spirit was infectious as a loyal friend, employee, Vietnam veteran, and a volunteer.
Tony is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Ellen (Horrigan) Jarvis of Portland, ME; son, Joseph M. (Lily) Jarvis; grandchildren, Amber (Nick) Robinson, and Jorie Ellen and Luke Anthony Jarvis; great-granddaughter, Norah Robinson of Carmel, IL; brother, James Ivy (Connie) Jarvis; sister, Mary (Don) Lehmann; and many special friends who have lovingly supported him over the years.
We love and miss him already, but know that he is at peace now with the angels in heaven.
