

Robert L. “Bob” Stamp, 86, passed away, Monday, December 26, 2011 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. He was born April 8, 1925 in Tell City, IN to the late Louis and Ora (Rausch) Stamp. He was the second child and was born and lived on 10th St. in Tell City.
After the death of his mother and the 1929 Stock Market Crash, Louis took care of the four children. When he was not financially able, Robert was sent to the Pythian Home Orphanage in Lafayette, IN, where he lived from 1931-1937. Thereafter he resided with an aunt and uncle in Cannelton, IN where he attended Cannelton High School and was affiliated with Cannelton United Church of Christ. Upon graduation in 1943, he came to Evansville and briefly stayed at the CCC camp. He was rejected for the Army because of Polio. He then attended a welding and blueprint reading class. He worked at the Evansville Ship Yard.
Bob and a friend had a Deep Rock Service Station at Ohio and Second Street and later he took over Ashland Oil Station at Ohio and St. Joe where he met his future wife, Mary June Moeller. They were married September 26, 1953. Bob then worked at the Ashland Bulk Plant. He later became an agent and then an Independent Petroleum Distributor in 1965 until retirement in 1990.
Bob was a member of the Westside Nut Club since March, 1959. He served as Festival Chairman in 1966, Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President and President in 1972. Some of the committees he served on were the festival, booklet, stage set up, publicity, street clean up, office and anywhere else he was needed.
He was a wonderful husband and father. He enriched many lives and was a wonderful friend.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joann Hancock; grandson, John Mychaskiw; brothers, Cliff and Ralph Stamp; sister, Evelyn Elliott.
Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary June (Moeller) Stamp, Evansville; son, James R. Stamp (Renee), Elizabethtown, KY.; daughter, Katherine D. Mychaskiw (Ed), Simpsonville, SC.; grandchildren, Jennifer Cude (Ian), David Hancock, (Gina); Jeff Mychaskiw (Erica); Julie Mychaskiw; Lauren Stamp, Kyle Stamp; and 4 great grandchildren.
Friends may visit from 2-8 PM on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois and from 10-11AM, Friday, December 30, 2011 at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel. Services will be at 11 AM, Friday at the cemetery chapel, officiated by Ian Cude, with burial to follow.
