

Ron joined the Navy as a young man. He served in Europe during WWII as an Electricians mate, 2nd class. His first ship was the LST57. He also served time on a Yard Mine Sweeper and Destroyer. Following his military service, he worked at Servel before returning to school at Lockyear Business College and taking Dale Carnegie courses. He went to work at Westinghouse in appliance repair and finally went into the Optical business. He worked as an optician for 17 years at Singer Optical and subsequently was manager of Rose Optical for 18 years.
Ron and his wife Martha loved to dance and frequently attended dances at the Eagles and VFW. A few years after he and his wife Martha were married they moved to rural Evansville and raised four children. He especially loved camping with his family. He was an expert gardener and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. He helped build an in ground swimming pool for his family and enjoyed swimming in it with his kids and grandkids. He was an all around handyman. He served his church faithfully in many capacities including church elder and Men’s Brotherhood.
He was a life time member of the VFW 1114, American Legion, Armstrong Township Recreation Center Committee, Eagles, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Hadi Shrine, Darmstadt Retirees, Salem Church of Darmstadt, and the Salem Senior Center. He proudly volunteered giving tours aboard Evansville’s LST325.
Ronald is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Martha in March, 2014 and his son, Randall E. Barton in 1978 and his brother, Reginald Barton.
He is survived by his daughters, Connie (David) Waters and Jan (Tom) Schmitz, all of Evansville; son, Larry (Reina) Barton of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; grandchildren, Keith (Mandy) Schmitz, Randal Waters, Britney (Avery) Manns, Landry (Courtney) Schmitz; great grandchildren, Madison, Mackenzie, Avalyn, and Aubree; his sister, Joyce Newman; and, many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Salem Church of Darmstadt, 14134 Darmstadt Rd, Evansville, IN with Pastor David Peterson officiating, and burial following in the church cemetery. Friends may visit Friday 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Alexander North Chapel, where a masonic service will be held at 7:00 PM, and Saturday 10 AM until service time at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club and to Salem Church of Darmstadt.
