

Ruth attended Ohio State University for three years. She was a Sergeant in the Army Air Force during WWII where she was a radio mechanic and a link trainer. Ruth was an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church. She was a PTA President and Den Mother with the Boy Scouts. Ruth then went back to school at U of E and graduated in 1969. After graduation she worked at the Dept. of Public Welfare retiring as a Supervisor. Ruth was an avid reader, loved to embroider and sew, and belonged to the Lapidary Society. She also volunteered at Wesselman Nature Center. After her retirement she became active in Civitan and Special Olympics and traveled a lot.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, John Metz, Jr.; son, Dick Metz; brother, Bob Barker; sisters, Martha Roderick and Dorothy Mintz.
She is survived by her son, Bob Metz (Donna) of Michigan; daughter, Betty Stepek (Mike) of Boonville; son, Fred Metz (Patti) of Dallas; six grandchildren, John and Brian Metz, Jessica Johnson (Jeremy), Jennifer Schrock (Darin), Katy and Jake Metz; five great-grandchildren, Layla and Piper Johnson, Kadin, Myra, and Lia Schrock.
Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Centenary United Methodist Church with burial at church cemetery, officiated by Rev. Danny Walker. Friends may visit from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Wednesday November 10, at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road, Evansville and Thursday from 10:00 until service time at the church.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Warrick County Special Olympics.
