Sandra Lawrence

She graduated from F.J. Reitz High School, earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Evansville College, where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, and received a Master’s Degree from the University of Evansville.

Sandy was a teacher for the EVSC for 33 years, working at Harwood Elementary for 22 years and Stringtown Elementary for 11 years.

She was a member of the USI PAC Board, U of E Alumni Board of Directors, Deaconess Auxiliary, Kennel Club, and Evansville Tri-State Alumnae of Alpha Omicron Pi.

Sandy was a member of St. James West UMC for 61 years from 1950-2011 and served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

She belonged to the F.J. Reitz Big Blue Boosters for 33 years. On July 3, 2011, Sandy was presented with a plaque that recognized her years of service to Reitz Big Blue Boosters. Her name will be added to the Big Blue Boosters Hall of Fame plaque in the Reitz Field House.

Sandy’s hobbies were traveling and playing golf.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Larry Lawrence; brother, William Droll; special cousin, Lea Ann Dowd; nephew and several nieces.

The family would like to thank Dr. Maqbool Ahmed and his staff for their loving care, and many thanks to the Oncology Unit #5100 at Deaconess Hospital.

Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Pastor Gary Brunson, with entombment at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit from 2:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, July 13, 2011 and 10:00 to 11:00 AM until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.

Her beloved dog Max recently died, was cremated, and will be buried with her.
