Sara VanStone

Sara J. VanStone, formerly of Evansville, passed away on October 27.2025 at the age of 85. Sara was currently living in New Castle, IN. She was born on December 24, 1939 in Evansville to the late Kenneth and Alice (Reller) Rice.

Sara graduated from Bosse High School in 1957. She met Charles VanStone in the early 1970s. She and Charles moved to Ohio in 1974, then relocated to Coral Springs, FL in 1979. Sara was a bank teller and continued her career for several years, retiring prior to moving to Lawrenceville, GA. She then started working at Gwinett Medical Center as an admissions clerk, finally retiring several years later. Sara and Charles moved back to Evansville to enjoy their retirement. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Darmstadt and did volunteer work at Deaconess Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles VanStone, and parents.

Sara is survived by her children, Steven Bower (Marjorie),Cynthia Stancil (Joe), and Randy Bower (Bre); stepson, Gilbert VanStone; grandchildren, Michael Flanagan (Jessica), Kellyn Aguilar (Jaime), Nikki Bloomer (Chris), Amanda Roberts (Kenny), Erin Bengston (Raymond), and Madelin Bower; sister, Karen Slade; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Darmstadt, officiated by Pastor James Glowinski, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Friends and family may visit from 1:00 p.m. until service time at church.
