

Sharon Barnes Slack, 85, passed away peacefully on June 5. 2024 at her long-time home in Carmel, IN surrounded by her family. She was born on February 24, 1939 in Evansville, IN to Charles and Evideen Barnes.
Sharon was a proud 1957 graduate of Evansville Reitz High School and enjoyed returning to Evansville for her class reunions. She attended the University of Evansville where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She graduated from The Ohio State University and was a teacher in the Columbus OH Public School District for 10 years.
Upon moving to Carmel, IN in 1973, Sharon decided to pursue a law degree. She graduated from the Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis and worked in the Marion County Prosecutor's Office. Eventually she moved into private practice, specializing in family law until her retirement.
Sharon was a multi-talented person who left her mark on anyone she met. She had a lifetime love of traveling, cooking, gardening, nature, and the great outdoors. Two of her favorite places to visit were Barbados and Door County, Wisconsin. She also enjoyed being a vocal fan and supporter at all of her grandchildren’s athletic events.
Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, John Slack; brother, Buddy Barnes; and brother-in-law, Joe Herron.
She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Martin (Joe) of McKinney, TX and Angela Williams (Ryan) of Carmel, IN; grandchildren, Joey Martin (Laura) of Austin, TX, Johnny Martin (Kristie) of Vicenza, Italy, Courtney Martin (Mark White) of Seattle, WA, Avery Williams, Blake Williams, Cade Williams all of Carmel, IN; great-grandchildren, Elle Martin, Buddy Martin, Jack Martin, Emilia Martin all of Austin, TX and Siena Martin of Vicenza, Italy; sister, Joyce Ann Herron; special niece, Terri Swain (David) and special nephew, David Herron (Roxann) all of Evansville, IN.
A visitation will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2024, with a 3:00 p.m. Memorial Service to follow at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, Evansville, Indiana. Entombment will be private at Alexander Memorial Park.
