Sharon Rae Yunker, 83, formerly of Evansville, passed away November 6, 2018 at Franklin Meadows Nursing Home in Johnson County, IN. She was born to Kenneth and Marian Hornback on April 7, 1935, in Evansville. She lived more than 60 years in the same home on the North Side. She was a past member of Old North UMC and a member of Salem UMC before moving to Indianapolis in 2015. Sharon retired from the Vanderburgh County Clerk’s Office. Earlier, she was active in Girl Scouts and worked for Kroger. Sharon was best known for all her creative work as a seamstress, making wedding cakes, and creating beautiful afghans and quilts. She was never without a project to keep her hands busy. Each one of her children and grandchildren has a sample of “Granny’s” handiwork to cherish. A graduate of Tekoppel Elementary and Reitz High School, Sharon married Vardus Yunker on July 3, 1953. He preceded her in death December 25, 2006. She was also preceded in death by both parents and her sister Sandra (Donald) Deutsch. Sharon is survived by daughter, Vicki (Mike) McKasson of Indianapolis; son, Rick (Victoria) Yunker of Gainesville FL; grandchildren, Kate (Josh) Burger of Wilmington DE, Kenton (Marilyn) McKasson of Salt Lake City UT, Emily Yunker of Washington DC and Thomas (Rebecca) Yunker of Greenwood IN; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Bennett Yunker, and Maisie Jo McKasson. Also surviving are Donald Deutsch, brother-in-law; Ann Yunker Abney, sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road. Friends may visit 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2018 and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
