

He retired from Pepsi Cola in 2010 after 30 years as a fleet mechanic. Steve also operated J & S Garage at his home. He enjoyed fishing, shooting guns, boating on the river, and camping at his river camp. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and adored spending time with his grandkids at family gatherings; they would light up his world. Steve spent most of his days on his front porch, watching the neighborhood with his dogs.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronedale Steven Layne, Jr., and sister, Charlene Davis.
He is survived by his children, Holly Jenkins (Lee), Kim Carlile (Mike), George Grigsby, Steven Layne (Melissa), and Clayton Layne (Stacy); grandchildren, Christy, Misty, Glenn Jr., Cory, Dustin, Dacota, Braxton, Aaron, Matthew, Heather, and Alex; 15 great grandchildren; and sister, Debbie “Dale” Harper.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Rd. Evansville, IN, with burial to follow in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends and family may visit from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025 at the funeral home.
