Terrell “Terry” G. Brace, Sr. of Evansville, IN passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024, at the age of 77. He was born on May 3, 1946, in Vincennes, IN. His parents were Donald Eugene Brace and Alice “Jean” Clark, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his grandchild, David Isaac Jacobs.
He graduated from Vincennes Lincoln High School in 1964. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and traveled the world. He met his wife while in port in Norfolk, VA and swept her off her feet the day she was supposed to go on a date with someone else. After his honorable discharge in 1968, he, his wife, and their infant twins moved back to Indiana. He received an Associate Degree in Architectural Drafting from Lain Technical Institute in Evansville, IN and subsequently worked as an architectural draftsman, construction estimator, and project manager. He also put his construction skills to work building the family home in 1976 and helping his children with their own projects over the years (but drew the line at Victorian dollhouses with hundreds of individual shingles). He was always resourceful and often came up with innovative and unexpected ways to solve problems.
He was actively involved in the Scott Township Volunteer Fire Department for several years, and he wore his firefighting boots for the rest of his life. He was also an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, gardening, cooking, and he was an avid and talented woodworker.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sharron; his children, Terrell “Ted” Brace, Jr. (Patricia “Trish”), Lorraine “Lorri” Dunwoody (Tim), Sarrah Grubb (Jack), and Sharron “Andrea” Kaucher (Edward “Aaron”), all of whom live in the Indianapolis Metro area; and his grandchildren, Reuben (Carolina Luna), Aaron, and Nathan Jacobs, Zoe and Avery Grubb, and James and Reid Kaucher. He is also survived by his sister, Pamela Stanford of Brandon, FL, and niece, Danna Pollard of Lakeland, FL.
We, his children, would like to thank Scott Township Fire & EMS for their efforts to save our father and for the care they showed our mother on Friday, April 5.
Services will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church, 14340 Old State Rd, Evansville, IN 47725 on Thursday, April 11, 2024. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with the funeral following at 1 p.m.
Interment will be on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Marion National Cemetery, 1700 East 38th Street, Marion, IN 46953.
