Vera “Midge” M. Schnautz, age 97, of Evansville, Indiana, entered her heavenly home on August 17, 2025. Born September 6, 1927, to the late Elvera and Silas Roy, Vera lived a long, full life marked by unwavering faith, deep love for her family, and kindness toward everyone she met.
Vera was the most devoted Christian, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She had a servant’s heart and joyfully shared her wisdom, compassion, and steadfast belief in Jesus Christ with all who crossed her path. An avid viewer of Charles Stanley’s messages, she found great strength in her faith and lived it out daily.
She was a devoted caregiver to her great aunt and extended that same devotion to her community. Vera was an active participant at SWIRCA, where she could be found at least three times a week. Whether it was enjoying a workout, sharing a meal, or the fellowship of friends, SWIRCA brought her immense joy. True to her nature, she made it her mission to welcome newcomers, save them a seat at her table, and ensure they felt loved and included. Vera was delightfully goofy, the best jokester, and her infectious laugh could light up any room.
Vera also had a deep affection for her toy poodle, Ollie, who was almost as sweet as she was.
She is survived by her son, Rick (Tammy) Schnautz; her cherished grandchildren, Katie, Matthew, and Sarah; her sister, Doris Smith; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Silas “Bud” Roy.
Above all, her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren, who were the pride of her heart. Vera’s legacy is one of unconditional love, encouragement, and faith. To know her was to be welcomed, uplifted, and cared for. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered as a faithful servant of Christ and the heart of her family.
A funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Rev. Doug Horner, with burial to follow in Alexander Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to SWIRCA, 16 W. Virginia St. Evansville, IN 47710.
