Bette was one of the most important people in my life because she took loving care of my son as he grew up. She first took a special interest in Mark when she worked at Kindercare. I approached her with the idea of watching Mark in her home. I knew that Bette had such a loving "Mothers" heart. She jumped at the chance and gave my son so many fun times, raising him like her own child. Over time Bette & Don became like family to us. She gave so much of her fun-loving heart to children. We all will miss her so much.

I am very grateful for Bette's unending love. She is an incredibly special spirit, her happiness and smile infectious. I feel blessed to have known her.

Bette brought a little sunshine and happiness to the many people that she touched with her kind and generous spirt.
She will surely be missed.

I was so blessed to know you and your family for the past many years. Thanks to Heidi I was able to be apart of you and Don's life and Mackenzie. As Mackenzie's teacher and softball coach, I was only blessed to know Bette for a short time.  I really got to know her more after Heidi's death.  Bette was such a strong woman, full of love.  As I shared stories with Bette, Don and Mackenzie, I realized how much she was like my own grandmother who had many of the same medical problems.  Maybe that is why I felt such a strong connection.  I'm so glad I got to know Bette over the past few years and I can honestly say that heaven has another angel and is a greater place because she's there.  My prayers go out to Don, Mackenzie and the rest of the family.  Bette, you will be missed, but never forgotten.  Thanks for being part of the AMHS softball family!!!  I (and the AMHS softball team) love you!

In March of 2010, a grief-stricken Bette stood beside the grave of her beloved daughter Heidi and gave a heartfelt eulogy for the girl she loved more than life. Her voice was clear & strong, and she shared humorous stories that we all enjoyed (and only Bette could convey so well).  How did she find the strength?  She amazed us all, and in her words, she shared something I hadn't heard her say before (but of course we all knew).  She shared that as a young woman, she didn't want a career...her biggest dream was to be a Mom.  Daughter Heidi and granddaughter Mackenzie were her life's greatest work, and she gave the girls and her beloved Don her "all".  But lucky for rest of us, Bette's capacity to love was without measure, and spilled out into all areas of her life.  Her jobs included working in daycares, working in nursing homes, and when Heidi was older, being a nanny for many years to one very lucky little boy.  Her idea of caregiving was to go beyond the basics....including a lot of fun, adventure, laughter and hugs.  She loved animals very much, so she loved them in multiples....multiple cats, multiple dogs, lots of bird feeders and even a mini-goat and a donkey!  In her artistry....her yard, her antiques, her dolls, her Christmas trees, her bargain shopping & crafts....she employed her love of life and was joyfully expressive.  Her Christmas trees covered the living room, family room, dining room, kitchen...even the bathroom.  They weren't just decorated...they were "encrusted" with ornaments! :-).  And who could forget her huge carousel in the living room! Thru her decorating, Bette expressed herself and welcomed you into her home..... visitors instantly knew that "Love lives here".  Bette was married to my dad's cousin, but of course "3rd cousin" didn't work as a title....she will always be my "Aunt Bette" and her memory lives on in my heart.  God Bless you Don, MacKenzie and Bette's sisters, nieces & nephews.  You will be in my prayers for months to come.  May you be blessed with His peace, comfort, protection and provision.  May our happy memories console & inspire each of us as we heal. I love you, Aunt Bette!

Bette Oh how I will miss your smile and your heartfelt laugh. Knowing that all the Babies in Heaven now have you to rock them to sleep will make missing you easier to bear.
