Charles B. "Chuck" Ogden

Chuck passed away peacefully and with dignity at his home on September 4, 2011 with his wife Jerrie at his side. He was born in Pocatello, Idaho to Bert and Nita Ogden on August 12, 1930.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jerrie, children Mike (Carol) Ogden, Kate Bryant, Shane ( Holly ) Rabourn, Kevin (Katie) Rabourn, Corrinne Goulet (Ian Moreton), Terry Rabourn, as well as his sister Marilyn (Pete) Richards, eleven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Chuck is preceded in death by his parents and son Kelly Rabourn.

Chuck attended elementary school in Spokane, where his father began his long term employment with Consolidated Freightways. His father’s employment required the family to relocate to Salt Lake City, where Chuck attended junior high school and learned how to ski at Alta and Brighton ski resorts. Eventually his family relocated back to Portland where Chuck graduated from Grant High School in 1947. Directly after high school, he was accepted into the School of Architecture at the University of Oregon, where he graduated from the 5 year program in 1952. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity and enjoyed fond memories of his college years.

Chuck’s early career as an architect brought him to Seattle, where he worked as a civilian architect for the Dept. of Navy, Army Corp of Engineers, and then for a small Seattle architectural firm. In the 1950’s, he won honorable mention in the National Interior Design Contest sponsored by McCall’s magazine. In 1958, Chuck was approached by the Everett architectural firm, Hall, Graves, & Dykeman, to manage their satellite office in Seattle. He was soon offered an associate position with the firm at their main office in the Commerce Building in downtown Everett. He accepted the offer and moved to Everett in 1960. In 1967, Chuck and Dave Dykeman formed the partnership Dykeman & Ogden Architects locating in a small office at 1712 Pacific Ave. As the firm grew and took on partners, the name was changed to Dykeman Architects. Chuck retired as a principal in the firm in 1992. He was a registered architect in Washington, Oregon, California, and Alaska and a corporate member of the American Institute of Architects.

Chuck was proud of the city where he lived and worked, and was grateful to have been involved with the design of several buildings in downtown Everett from the 1950’s to the present, including Everett Junior College, Medical/Dental Bldg, Everett Daily Herald, the Bank of America Bldg, Colby Center/Union Bank Bldg, Opus (Cascade Bank) Bldg, Coastal Community Bank Bldg, Colby Place, the Everett Public Library, and most recently, Library Place. When completed, Library Place will have a two-story, light-filled reading room for community gatherings and events named in his honor. Chuck leaves a legacy through these projects, and many others, which will last for generations to come.

Chuck was a past member of Kiwanis and the Republican Associates of Snohomish County. He has served on the board of directors for Camp Fire of Snohomish County for over 40 years (including volunteering for the taste-testing of fundraiser mints) and on the Whidbey General Hospital Board. He and Jerrie are members of the Everett Golf & Country Club.

Chuck and Jerrie enjoyed their years living at Sunlight Beach on Whidbey Island, sailing, crabbing, and entertaining family and friends. In more recent years, they had the good fortune to build the home of their dreams overlooking Possession Sound and Admiralty Inlet. Chuck and Jerrie loved working at each other’s side, especially if it involved designing, building, or beautifying their home. Chuck was an honorable husband, father, and friend throughout his life and he will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 21 at 1:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 2936 Rockefeller Ave, Everett. A reception at the church will follow.
