

Ed was born in Seattle, WA to Avis Ethel (Hammond) and Raymond Douglas McMurray on February 6, 1918. At the age of 3 the family moved and started a chicken ranch in Alderwood Manor, later moving to Lake Stevens. His growing-up years, and until 1948 were spent here, except for time served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1945. He served mainly in Italy during WWII as a Technical Sergeant, supervising radio and telephone communications for the 752nd Tank Battalion. Upon discharge from the Army in July of 1945, Ed went to work for the movie theatres in Everett, and moved into the position of chief projectionist of the Everett Theatre until retirement about 20 years later. He also served as the Business Agent for Everett, WA, Local 180 (Union) for many years.
He was a long-time member of Delta Community Baptist Church, and enjoyed serving there in various ways; deacon, Sunday school teacher, trustee, sound man, and had a particular talent in keeping the church organ running well.
Ed was a licensed Amateur Radio Operator since 1938 and his call letters were W7GXN.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert McMurray; son James McMurray; and Son-in-Law Greg Glasgow.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, June L. (Hartman). He leaves behind a son, Michael McMurray of Everett, WA; a daughter, Melanie Glasgow of Marysville WA; 3 Grandchildren, Matt (Shanon) Glasgow, Jason (Karen) Glasgow, Tenille (John) Mills; and 12 Great Grandchildren. Ed will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial service celebrating Ed’s life will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 11AM at Purdy & Walters with Cassidy Funeral Home, 1702 Pacific Ave., Everett, 425-252-2191.
