Maggie was born in Shelton Washington and raised in the Deming area of Whatcom County, attending Mount Baker High School.
After graduating from Western Washington University in the mid 1950’s she was an educator in Hawaii, Europe, and North Africa before moving back to the Bellingham area where she married her husband of 56 years, Chuck Macaulay in October of 1956. Soon thereafter, they made their home in North Everett where they raised their two sons Brian, and Bob Macaulay.
In the early 1970’s Maggie, and good friend Kris Hausmann opened The Commitment Restaurant on Hewitt Ave. and successfully ran the business for many years. Maggie was a great cook and enjoyed the camaraderie with restaurant staff which included many daughters and sons of friends. She had a flair for the perfect recipe and could often be found reading a cookbook “just for fun”.
She loved watching golf, tennis, and the Mariners, but could never figure out how the Mariners lost year after year!
Maggie enjoyed her days in the garden and, many compliment the Macaulay’s on their impressive landscape.
Every stray cat that ventured into the yard was a welcomed addition to the family. She had the ability to make any meow at the door feel at home. She was blessed with many lifelong friendships that she cherished. Maggie also enjoyed volunteering at the Luther Child Center in Everett for years.
Maggie was preceded in death by her mother and father Jenny and James Schmidt and brother, Fred Schmidt. She is survived by husband Chuck Macaulay, son Brian Macaulay, son Bob Macaulay and his wife Sue along with many nieces, and nephews.
An open house celebration of her life will be held at the Macaulay Residence 606 Wetmore Avenue, Everett, WA 98201, taking place on Saturday April 14th, 2012 from 1-5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers a donation would be greatly appreciated to The Puget Sound Kidney Center, 1005 Pacific Avenue, Everett, WA. 98201.
