

Marie Antoinette “Leona” (Josh) Kaiser, born June 14, 1913 to Howard Leon Josh Sr. and Miralda (Poirier) Josh in Stanwood, WA, passed away on August 20, 2011 in Mukilteo, WA. She graduated from Everett High School, Class of 1932. On Nov. 28, 1936 she married her husband of 67 years, James G. Kaiser, in Denver, CO. Marie was a lifelong and oldest living member of St. John Catholic Mission in Mukilteo. She was also a life member and advocate of the Mukilteo Historical Society, a graduate of the Seamanship Course - US Power Squadron, past president of various organizations, and volunteered with the Girl Scouts in the 1960’s. In 1990 Marie and her husband James were named Mukilteo Pioneers of the Year. Marie enjoyed horticulture, classical music and the arts and the seashore near the lighthouse, genealogy, and spending time with her family and friends. At age 60, she traveled throughout Europe with her 80 year old aunt, visiting many Catholic sites and shrines. Marie is survived by daughters Mary Louise Griffin (Earl) of Sun City, CA, Marguerite Ann Kaiser Valverde (Leonardo) of Costa Mesa, CA, nephew Howard L. Josh III and niece Elizabeth (DeeDee) (Stemmer) Oen, 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 4 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James G. Kaiser in 2003, brothers Thomas Everett Josh in 2003 and Howard Lyon Josh Jr. in 2006. Visitation will be from 10am-5pm on Thursday and Friday, August 25th and 26 that Purdy & Walters with Cassidy, 1702 Pacific Ave., Everett, 425-252-2191. A prayer vigil will be held at 7pm on Friday, August 26th at St. John Catholic Mission, 829 – 3rd. St., Mukilteo. The Funeral Mass will be at 10 am on Saturday, Aug 27 at the church with a reception to follow. Interment will be at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, Everett.
