

Melvin C. Smith, 96, of Everett, Wash., died on February 8, 2015. He was born February 19, 1918 in Milwaukee, Oregon to Oscar L. Smith Sr. and Pearl E. Daugherty, as the 9th of 11 children. Melvin served in the Army/Air Corps from 1939 to 1945 and was a veteran of World War II campaigns of Tunisia, Africa and Sicily, Italy. After the war he was employed as a carpenter/contractor and later employed as a carpenter for the Bellevue School District. On June 24, 1945 he married June E. Hansen and celebrated 56 years of marriage together. Melvin and June enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing and spending time with family and friends. He was an active member of Temple Baptist Church and later Bible Baptist Church of Everett. His faith was important to him, as well as his family. Melvin was preceded in death by son, Curtis Smith; granddaughter, Kimberly Devier and; wife, June. He is survived by his children, Linda Hardy of Zilla, Wash., Deanna (Jerry) Erickson of Bremerton, Wash., Randy Smith of Arlington, Wash. and Jenny (Clyde) Rindero of Lake Stevens, Wash.; as well as 10 grandchildren and numerous great grand-children and great-great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother, Edward Smith of Boise, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 13, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Purdy and Walters, 1702 Pacific Ave, Everett, WA, followed by graveside services and reception at Evergreen Cemetery, in Everett .
