

Dr. William H. Lucas, Sr., 88, a long time resident of Everett, Wash. died June 17, 2016, just six days before his 60th wedding anniversary with his loving wife, Anna. He was born in Marysville, Washington on March 19, 1928, to parents, Thomas and Isabelle (Goodleigh-Mott) Lucas. He resided in Marysville for twelve years and then lived in Mount Vernon, Wash. In 1942 he moved to Everett, Wash. and graduated from Everett High School in 1946. He joined the Army Medical Corps in July of 1946 serving at Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Upon discharge he attended Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa graduating in 1951. In 1952 he became the first Commissioner of Little League Baseball and a member of the original board of Snohomish County Boys Club. He joined the Exchange Club of Everett and served as president. In 1954 he ran for U.S. Congressional office in the 2nd district of Washington. In 1968 he served as chairman of the Board of Freeholders rewriting the 1912 Everett City Charter. In 1976 he initiated a philosophy forum program where chiropractors returned to Palmer College and spoke to students on practicing chiropractic. Today there are over 250 chiropractors from all over the world participating in the program. In 1982 he was given an honorary degree, "Fellow in the Palmer Academy of Chiropractic" for his efforts in the program. He was appointed by Gov. Booth Gardner to serve on the Washington state Chiropractor's Disciplinary Board. He was a member of the Chiropractic Society of Washington. He retired in 2001 after 50 years of practice. He served 22 years as a member of the Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow).He was a life member of Everett Elks (Diamond Elk). In 1998 he served as president of the Everett Historical Commission. William is survived by wife, Anna Lucas and daughter, Linda Lucas of Everett, sons Dr. William H. Lucas Jr. and wife, Lisa of Everett, Michael Lucas and wife, Celeste of Burien, Wash., son-in-law, Dennis Maher of Mill Creek, Wash.; grandchildren, Ryan, Michael and Kaitlin Dean, Megan (Lucas) Famelos (John), Amy, Jane, and Bryan Lucas, Anna, Alison and Madeline Maher, Darby and Rosa Lucas; great-granddaughters, Isabella Revord and Payton Famelos, and expected great-grandson, Henry Dean; sisters, Sharon Smith of Everett and Susan Benson of Falmouth, Maine. William was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Mary Maher. Rosary Service will be Wednesday June 29, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. at Purdy and Walters with Cassidy, 1702 Pacific Ave., Everett. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 2617 Cedar Street, Everett. Mass officiated by Father Armando Guzman. A reception luncheon will follow at Hensen Hall. Thank you to the staff at Sunrise View Convalescent Center for the loving care of "Bill". In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Children's Hospital, Seattle or Palmer College of Chiropractic, 1000 Brady St. Davenport, Iowa 52803 in memory of Dr. William H.
