

He received Christ at an early age. Alonzo graduated from Indianola Colored High School in 1952.
After high school he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1955; while in the Army he married Ida Mae Scott and too this union five children were born: Alonzo III, Larry, Jerome, Gregory and Joseph. Later on he met Thelma Kent and to this union one daughter, Erica was born.
Alonzo worked for Ace Foundry until he retired after more than 40 years of dedicated service. He went on to open a soul food restaurant with his sisters on the West side of Chicago for 11 years. Oh how he loved food! Eating was his specialty! He also enjoyed playing keno and spending time with his family.
Alonzo married Masserlona Owens and loved her and her children; Leuteresa, Jimmy Dale and Vern as if they were his own. During his Christian walk throughout his life and joined the #2 New Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church.
On November 9, 2015 Alonzo transitioned into his eternal life surrounded by his family’s love.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: Booker T, Willie Ed, Emma and Arlene. His brother James transitioned just two days after his passing.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his children: Jerome (Elizabeth), Larry, Erica (Anthony), Leuteresa (LaVelle), LaTivia, Jimmy Dale, and Vern; his special nephew Freddie B., sisters; Gertha, Mary, Viola and sister in law Carrie. A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends will always remember his love and kindness.
