Daisy Mae Witherspoon left school at an early age to care for her mother.
In 1944, she had a beautiful baby girl Viola Mae Burrus in Danville, Kentucky. She later united in Matrimony to James Thomas Patton Sr. and from this union came James Thomas Patton Jr. (1945) and Barbara Ann Bell (1946) in Louisville, Kentucky.
In 1947, she moved to Chicago where she was a dedicated mother and worked endlessly as a domestic housekeeper. Her life was dedicated to her family, when her children became adults she was just as committed to her grandchildren. She was affectionately known as ‘Miss Daisy’’ to everyone.
In December 2011, Miss Daisy took the trip of her dreams with family to the Western Caribbean, where she met many new friends. She enjoyed herself so much that when she returned home she asked “where are we going next time.”
She was preceded in death by her late husband Wallace Witherspoon, her two daughters Viola Mae Cobb-Burton, Barbara Ann Bell, her sister Rosie Crowder and her five brothers.
On January 11, 2012, God called his sweet daughter and flower Daisy Mae “you have made this world more graceful with the love you shared with your children and grandchildren. Come to me so I can wipe away all your pain, suffering and tears”.
Daisy Mae’s legacy will live on in the hearts of her son James T. Patton, Jr. (Vanessa), her Step-Son Gregory T. Patton, her grandchildren, Jacqueline, Charlotte, Valerie, Carlotta, Theresa, LaToya, Carletta, Octavia, Michael, Cleveland, Eric, Willis, and Larry, and a host great grandchildren and nieces, nephews.
