Matilda Sims Davis was the fifth child born to Ollie and Lucille Sims on February 21, 1923 in Augusta Arkansas. Her son Herman Davis, parents, one sister Geneva and four brothers Amos, Owens, Daniel Sr. and LT Sr. and five grandchildren all preceded her in Gods Holy kingdom and are awaiting her arrival.
Matilda had five children whom created four generations of children. This completed a legacy of stars and within that legacy many stories, memories and thoughts was generated for our Matriarch Matilda Davis.
Matilda confessed Christ at a young age growing up in Arkansas where she met and married Lawrence Davis Sr. who preceded her in death. She moved her family to Chicago in April 1954. She attended nursing school and received her LPN license which allowed her to work in her passion for over 50 years and she retired at the age of 75.
Matilda took care of many people during her life time. In the nursing field she provided expert care with the love that could have only come from above. She was a woman who spoke her mind and didn’t mind talking to you about the goodness of the Lord. When you visit her she would be sitting in her recliner doing her crossword puzzle and chewing her gum. She would look at you from head to toe and tell you all about God’s love. Matilda loved bouncing her grandchildren, great grand and great great grandchildren on her famous knees. She loved to cook, especially during the Holidays where she would make her famous duck and dressing. Her grandchildren loved her seven layer coconut jelly cakes, sweet potato, chocolate and egg custard pies.
On November 4, 2014 at 1:50pm in the afternoon at Riverside Medical Hospital with her family by her side, Matilda said good bye to this old world at the age of 91.
Matilda leaves her legacy of four children. Three daughters Rose Davenport, Sally Adams, Florence Beans of Chicago, IL and one son Lawrence Davis Jr. of Ackerman, MS. One sister Christella Hughes of Riverside, CA, one sister in law Nevada Sims of West Helena, AK and 19 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren, 53 great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
