Robert Steven Cherry III, was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 13, 1951 to Robert L. Cherry and June P. Bob, as he was affectionately known, was always full of life, had a great personality, a gregarious laugh, and was an avid sports fan. He loved his beloved Chicago Bears, win or lose.
He worked as a lifeguard as a teenager every summer during his high school career. He graduated from Leo High School in 1969. He later joined the Army National Guard, where he served for 4 years. He later earned his Bachelor of Arts degree.
Because of his love for being near the water, and his experience as an avid swimmer, he returned to the Chicago Park District, where he worked for over 30 years. He worked again as a lifeguard, and was later promoted to Aquatic Supervisor. He was a constant fixture on the lakefront during the summer, as the 63rd Street Beach Manager, for the next several years, until his retirement.
A few years later, Bob worked as an armed driver for the Brinks Corporation. He then moved to the northside of Chicago where he was once again, close to the lakefront. He was inducted into the Who's Who in America.
He was very interested in politics, and was a former member of the Young Democrats, becoming a Precinct Captain in the 42nd ward. He loved listening to old school music, and going to live concerts.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and his twin brother, Richard, who passed away during childbirth. He is survived by his special friend, Christina Pruitt, his step-mother Rosemarie Arshad, and a host of friends, and former colleagues.
