Leon Childress

Leon Childress, 89, of Fairdale, died Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at his home. He was born February 17, 1927 in Cub Run, KY to the late Robert and Lela Mae Miles Childress. He is also preceded in death by his step-mother, Mary Childress; infant daughter, Carolyn Childress; twin sister, Levon Esters; and nephew, David Esters. He was a US Navy veteran and retired from International Harvester/ Navistar. He enjoyed the outdoors and meeting and talking with new people or just watching the crowds go by. He also could be found on his moped collecting cans to keep busy and recycle or playing his guitar and singing.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Childress; sons, Donnie Childress (Vivian) and Darrel Childress (Gina); daughter, Janet Payton (David); siblings, Damon, Jerry, and Wanda Childress; grandchildren, Tammie, Kalie, Kyle, Kelsey, Steven, and Troy; and 6 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday at Fairdale-McDaniel Funeral Home, 411 Fairdale Rd., Fairdale, KY 40118. His Funeral Service will be 10:00 am Saturday at the funeral home with burial to follow in Bethany Cemetery, 101917 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40272.
