Barbara A. (Young) Peterson On November 8, 2016 Barbara Ann Young Peterson passed away in Fairfax, VA at the age of 84. Beloved wife of the late Col. Robert (Bob) A. Peterson (USAF Ret), mother of Sue Ellen Smoot, son-in-law William A. Smoot Jr. , the late Richard (Rick) A. Peterson, and daughter-in-law Mary E. Peterson. She also has four grandchildren Samantha C. Smoot, Timothy W. Smoot, Heather R. Smoot and Andrew R. Peterson. She also has a brother William B. Young of Cadillac Michigan, sister-in-law Elaine Young, and a niece and nephew. Barbara was born in Ann Arbor, Ml in 1932 and graduated from Harrison HS in '49. After attending business school she moved to Houston TX to work as a secretary where she met her husband who was in training for the Air Force. After their marriage they moved to several different locations in Nebraska and Calif. Barbara has lived in the local area for the past 47 yrs, most of that time in Vienna,VA. She was a devoted, supportive mother and enjoyed being an active military wife. Later she worked as an executive secretary and retired from TRW after 20 yrs. She was known for her friendly smile, helpfulness, love of music, entertaining, crafting, and joy of life. Visitation will be held at Demaine Funeral Home in Fairfax VA on Saturday, November 19, from 2-3pm with a service to follow 3-4pm. Private internment will be held at Arlington Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson National Foundation or the Alzheimer's Assn.
