Cynthia “Impy” McGloon, 95, died peacefully on January 17, 2024. Impy was born in New York City, as an identical twin, to Cynthia Joyce and G. Everett Hoyt and was raised in Fairfield, Connecticut. The twin sisters - “Impy” and Susie - were inseparable. Both twins were graduated from Stanford University in 1950.
Impy was married for 60 years to the late J. Howard “Mac” McGloon. They raised their family in Darien, Connecticut. After Mac retired from a career with Chase Manhattan Bank and the Bank of New Hampshire, they spent their time between New Hampshire and Florida. Impy thoroughly enjoyed her art and her gardens and also found her new passion in golf - both at Baker Hill in New Hampshire and Mission Valley in Florida.
Impy was known for her sparkling blue eyes, kindness and love of dogs. She was an enormously creative artist in many ways. During the past decade, Impy lived at Vinson Hall Retirement Community in McLean, Virginia, to be close to family. Here her warmth, humor, and gracious spirit made a lasting positive impact with fellow residents.
She is survived by her three children, Holly McGloon Sethness, Wendy McGloon Jones (John Marvin Jones II), and Kevin McGloon (Kate Blow McGloon), by seven grandchildren, Ashley Gosnell Mody (Darshan Mody), Elizabeth “Ellie” Sethness, Charlotte Sethness, Lyla Lee Jones, Haley McGloon, Grey McGloon, and Carter McGloon, and two great-grandchildren.
Impy was predeceased by her husband J. Howard “Mac” McGloon, her twin Susan “Susie” Morris, brother G. Everett “Bunch” Hoyt, Jr, and her son-in-law, Henry Sethness.
The Family is grateful for the loving care of the staff at Vinson Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Impy's honor to the Employee Appreciation Fund at Vinson Hall, 6251 Old Dominion Drive, McLean, VA, 22101.
The Family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
