

Daryl Hatton Powell, age 63, passed away on October 5, 2015 in Aldie, VA. He is survived by his brother, Blair D. Powell of Richmond, VA; his Goddaughter, Ann Marie Turnicky of Potomac Falls, VA; and his two Godson’s, Steven Springs of Alexandria, VA and Luke Stratton of Potomac Falls, VA. Mr. Powell was born, Daryl Hatton Powell in Cleveland, Ohio on October 25, 1951, the second son of Mary MacDonald Powell and Donald B. Powell. Mr. Powell attended college at the University of Florida where he achieved his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974. He was actively involved with the Rugby team through the University of Florida, traveling both domestically and overseas for the team. After earning his degree, he moved to Fairfax, VA to begin his career as a civilian with the Department of the Army. He served 34 years with the Department of the Army, earning many accommodations and awards during his time. He retired as the Army Material Command’s Program Manager for Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) in 2008. After his retirement, Daryl stuck to his word and never wore a suit or tie again. Instead during all of his free time, he continued to play golf at Fort Belvior and was adamant on watching his favorite two teams play football, the Florida Gators and the Washington Redskins. He could often be found at his favorite local watering hole, Hopsfrog, where he maintained a close network of friends and colleagues. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 1pm-3pm at the Demaine Funeral Home, 10565 Main St. Fairfax, VA 22030. Demaine Funeral Home will be handling all arrangements.
