I met Diane when we were both volunteers in the pediatrics unit of Fairfax Hospital. We volunteered together for more than 5 years. It was such a joy to be with her every Friday night. Diane was a person of joy and the most generous person I have ever met with both her time and money. Whenever there was a need, she simply got out her check book and said, “I’ll take care of this”. She purchased new video equipment for the Child Life center and helped several families that we had become close with. We would have make believe tea parties with the younger patients and she would love to hold the babies, IV tubes and all. I loved hearing her stories about her husband John and her time as a flight attendant. Diane loved her family and friends and took such good care of them. She embodied what it means to be a Christian. I pray that she is now resting in the arms of our Heavenly Father and hearing the words we all long to hear, “Well done, my good and faithful servant, well done.”

Diane Benn  helped many people navigate difficult times by listening, encouraging and problem solving.  She celebrated our joys also.  Her hallmark was humor no matter the situation. She was always present, then life gets us removed from each other.  It can be truthfully stated that she was the first stepping stone on my path to survive what is now 31 years post cancer surgery. Saddened by her departure and our not having kept in touch, in awe of her new life in heaven amidst her family.  My condolences to her beloved sister and step-daughter Julie. Words cannot convey the sadness in my heart. We were friends for many years and roommates for five years during our airline days.

Diane, my friend of 63 years. I will always hold on to our memories of  time shared together during our airline days and  trips  abroad.  Our times together can never be replaced and I will look upon these memories that we share together as the most treasured times of my life.  You will forever be in my heart.
