Donald E. Hall, 87, of Indian, West Virginia passed away January 1, 2021. Don passed away at Fairfax Hospital due to respiratory complications from COVID 19 virus. Born in 1933, Don was the third of 13 children raised by George and Lenora Hall. With early responsibilities in the large family, Don excelled in school, showing talent for writing, math, and baseball. He enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as a communications specialist. Following his active service he began his career with the U.S. Department of State where he met Elizabeth Joyce in Washington DC. Their courtship continued until they were wed in Delhi, India on April 12, 1958. Following several national and international postings, the family settled in Fairfax VA, where the couple raised their family. Don coached baseball, contributed to many charities and kept in close contact with his extended family. Don retired from the State Department in the early 80s. He continued to work and travel as a contractor for another 20 plus years. In his travels, he met people and families from many cultures and backgrounds. A testament to his character and humility, he valued these connections deeply, and never stopped learning. After their many adventures abroad, he and his wife traveled America and the world until Betty’s illness and eventual passing in 2013. Despite advancing health challenges related to Alzheimer’s, Don remained a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. His final years were spent as a resident of the Virginian Retirement Community in Fairfax Virginia where his wit and wisdom never dulled, and he continued to inspire everyone he met. Don is survived by his daughter, Julia; his 3 sons, Timothy, Michael, and Stephen; and 3 grandchildren, Veronica, Evan, and Timothy. He is also survived by sisters, Marie and Penny; brothers, Gerald, Ricky, Randy, Doug, and D.K.; and innumerable nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Lenora and George; his wife, Elizabeth; and siblings, Corrine, Peggy, Robert, Willard, and Harold. All who met him will remember him fondly. Interment at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, VA, with a memorial to be held at a later date.
