Douglas Thomas Wilson of Woodbridge, VA died in a car accident on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at age 65. He is survived by his three children: Jennifer Elizabeth Loy (and husband Todd) of Rockville, MD; Matthew Douglas Wilson (and fiancee Kristen) of Alexandria, VA; and Christopher Daniel Wilson of Woodbridge, VA; and two granddaughters: Elisabeth and Genevieve Loy. He is also survived by his sister Virginia Wilson of Wilmington, DE. Additionally he leaves behind many dear friends and relatives.
Doug was born on April 25, 1956 in Wilmington, DE to the late Earle C. Wilson and Elizabeth (Thomas) Wilson. He spent his youth in Wilmington graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1974. He later attended and graduated from Shepherd College (now Shepherd University) in West Virginia in 1978 with a degree in hospitality management. While at Shepherd, Doug was on the swim team and a member of the Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity. Upon graduation, he relocated to the Washington, DC area where he welcomed his three children with former spouse Susan Marks. Doug worked as the General Manager in a number of local restaurants including: Chi-Chis, H I Ribsters, Charley’s Place, Hogates, Glory Days Grill, among others. Also in his over 40 year career he tried his hand managing a chain of 7-elevens (I don’t know if we can ever have another slurpee), running a window washing business and managing a pet hotel and grooming business. He found his home, as the General Manager for the American Legion (Post 177) in Fairfax, VA for the past 17 years. Like any home or family, he often complained about everything, but also loved the mission and the people, customers and staff. Doug has always been a fan of classic cars, previously owning a Buick Grand National and later a 1989 Chevy Corvette. He greatly enjoyed being a member of Northern Virginia Corvette Club and attended many events and cruises in the region. Doug was a jack-of-all-trades with a knack for numbers and a keen business sense. We will miss his sense of humor (snarky) and remember the adventures we have all had with him.
A memorial service and celebration of life is being hosted by the American Legion Post 177 on his behalf on Friday, January 7, 2021 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM. American Legion Post 177 is located at 3939 Oak St, Fairfax, VA 22030.
