Drexel "Drex" Dwight Eschle, age 97 passed away peacefully at home with family by his side. He was predeceased by his wife Roxanne in 2010 and his son Danny in 1966, and siblings Lisle and Wanda. Born in New Richland, Minnesota on August 3, 1921 to Roy and Winnie Eschle, Drex moved to Creston Iowa as a young boy. He graduated from Cromwell H.S. in 1940. Soon after Graduation Drex received his letter from Franklin D. Roosevelt, and reported for duty in Sept 1942. He fought in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. Drex said his 3 war souvenirs were Trench foot, Frostbite, and a sore shoulder from the 50 pound radio. Within a year of returning he met his wife Roxanne. She was working at the Mayflower Hotel. They married in 1947. Drexel was an engineer and worked for Cook Engineering and a few others. He retired as a general contractor with his son. Drex and Roxanne settled in Falls Church. Their son Danny was born in 1951, Mark in 1953 and Denise in 1963. After retirement Drex enjoyed traveling the country in his RV. His favorite destination was Alaska in 1989. In the last few years he spoke at GWU on the Normandy Invasion. Drex was also interviewed by Radio America and the National Wartime Museum. He was especially proud of his Birthday card he received from President Barack Obama thanking him for his service. Drexel leaves behind his son Mark (Denise) of Gainesville, his Daughter Denise (Ted) of Centreville, his 7 grandchildren; Tiffany, Katie, AJ, Joshua, Jessica, Justin and Jenna. His 6 great grandchildren; Alyssa, Alex, Madison, Bella, Julia, Blake and 1 more on the way. Also by his nieces and nephews.
