He was born in Wilmington in 1953 to Joseph S. Wolfinger and Marilyn F. Wolfinger, and moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL at a young age. Joseph studied business at St. Thomas University in Miami. After graduating, he joined the United States Navy and served for 18 years, retiring as a lieutenant commander, and afterward worked as a career civil servant for the federal government.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph S. and Marilyn F. Wolfinger, and is survived by three siblings; his wife, Myrna S. Wolfinger; his children, Mischa S. and Joseph V. Wolfinger; and two grandchildren.
The memorial service is 11 am on December 11th, 2025 at Demaine Funeral Home in Fairfax, Virginia, and the burial is 10:30 am on December 12th, 2025 at National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the Alzheimer's Association or the Dementia Society of America to honor Joseph's memory.
