She was born June 11, 1928, in Burke, Virginia, to parents Frank Wark Rice and Edith Lee Rice. June was a lifelong resident of Burke and Fairfax. She and her three brothers were all born in the same farmhouse, Spring Grove in Burke, which is now part of Burke Lake Park. For her entire life she never strayed more than a few miles from that original location.
Soon after graduating high school June married her World War II hero, Jasper Alfred Monroe, on June 6, 1947. They soon had three children, Leslie Richard, Diane June, and Linda Marie. They were raised in the house that Jasper and many of his talented and able-bodied relatives, built in Fairfax City. After the War, raising three children was at times difficult. June handled all of this with her usual quiet stubborn spirit and innate intelligence.
June is preceded in death by her husband, Jasper Alfred; son, Leslie Richard; daughter, Diane June; and brothers, Harry Lee, and Richard Frank.
June is survived by daughter, Linda Marie Logan; son-in-law, Dave Logan; daughter-in-law, Sandy Monroe; brother, Ronald Edward; grandchildren, Keith, Brian, Jill, and Josh; nephew and niece Michael and Missy Monroe; and many loving great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1, and Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Demaine Funeral Home – Fairfax. A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Stonewall Memory Gardens in Manassas.
