Major Marion R. Ivy, U. S. Army, Retired, born February 29, 1924, died June 1, 2021 at the age of 97 years. He is survived by two sons; Richard James Ivy (Nancy)of Mesa, Arizona, and Michael Robert Ivy (Catherine) of Surfside Beachside Beach, South Carolina. A daughter; Petra Charlotte Oxendine of Rowland, North Carolina. Two brothers; Ellsworth (Bud) C. Ivy (Margaret) of Derby, New York and Edward in California, and a granddaughter, Andrea Layne Rutledge whom Agnes and Marion raised from the age of six months until she was married to Juan Rutledge, January 25, 1997. Agnes and Marion were blessed with 70 years of wonderful marriage, three children, eleven grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren. Marion was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin James Ivy and Mary Louena (Coleman) Ivy. Three sisters, Selma Francis Ivy, Juanita Ellen Ivy, Joan Renee Jones of Thornton, Colorado and three brothers, Gordon Lawrence Ivy (Ruth), Charles Elvin Ivy (Pauline) and Edward Paul Ivy. Major Ivy was born in Terre Haute, Indiana 29 February 1924. He moved with his family to Akron, Ohio about 1929 and resided there until he entered the U.S. Army and served with 82 Airborne Infantry in Europe, returned to the United States and was discharged 16 January 1946. 1 February 1946 he married Agnes Catherine Anderson in the Kenmore Christian Church, Kenmore, Major Ivy served in the Army for 23 years, including service in Europe during WW II, the Korean Conflict, and Viet Nam. Returned to civilian life 16 March 1967, attended and graduated from Southwest Missouri State College at Springfield, Missouri, moved the family to High Point, North Carolina. Taught Mechanical Drafting and Design in the Engineering Department, Guilford Technical Community College. Received his Master of Education degree at North Carolina A & T State University at Greensboro, North Carolina. Taught at Guilford Technical Community College at Jamestown, North Carolina for 20 years. Major Ivy will be cremated. His ashes to be placed in the same container with his wife’s. Inurnment will be at the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. A Memorial service will be held at the Olive Branch Christian Church,7643 Richmond Road, Norge, Virginia. A reception will be held immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the Olive Branch Mission Fund, Olive Branch Christian Church, 7643 Richmond Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23188; The American Heart Association; The USO World Headquarters, P.O. Box 96898, Washington, DC 6898; or the Army Emergency Relief Coordinator Bldg 601, Rm 106 Ft Eustis, Virginia.
