

Nancy Lorraine Davis Plourde, 68, of Reston, VA passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on August 5, 2014. She was born in Jackson, MS to Minnie and Thomas Davis and moved to the Washington, D.C. area in 1960. She received a B.Mus. from Oberlin Conservatory, a B.A. from the University of Maryland, an M.A. from the University of Virginia, and completed graduate work in piano at American University. Nancy has taught piano and performed as a collaborative musician for over 45 years in Northern VA and Maryland, Germany, Southern California, and San Antonio, TX. She has been active in a variety of musical organizations wherever she lived including serving on numerous boards. She has been a passionate advocate for music pedagogy and deeply touched the lives of her many students and colleagues around the country. Nancy will be remembered for her clever wit, musical artistry, inventive spirit, and loving playfulness with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her beloved husband Rene of 45 years, son Britton Plourde and daughter-in-law Alina of DeWitt, NY, daughter Lorraine Plourde and son-in-law David Kim of Hartsdale, NY, grandsons Xavier and Leo Plourde, and brother Thomas Davis and sister-in-law Linda of Rockville, MD. Family and friends will gather in Reston to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fairfax-Loudoun Music Fellowship, Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association, Oberlin Conservatory of Music scholarship fund, or the San Antonio International Piano Competition.
