Robert was born in Ecorse, MI on September 4, 1957, as the third of four children to the late Emmett and Ruth Mobley. He was a graduate of Ecorse High School before becoming a Cadet at the United States Coast Guard Academy. While at the Coast Guard Academy, he was always found on the basketball court or cruising his blue Trans-Am.
He was commissioned to serve in the United States Coast Guard on May 23, 1979 and proudly served for twenty-seven years. Robert was awarded the Coast Guard Commendation Medal (CEU Cleveland), among other achievement awards. He was also a graduate of The University of Illinois at Champagne-Urbana where he received his Master’s in Civil Engineering.
On September 21, 1991, he married the love of his life Attorney Dawn A’cay Kelly. The two enjoyed twenty-nine and a half years of marriage. God blessed Robert and Dawn with two amazing daughters Nicole and Chandler.
Robert was an avid college basketball fan who enjoyed golf, travel, grilling, and bowling, but most of all Robert loved God and his family. Robert attended Alfred Street Baptist Church with his family where he and his wife sang in the Voices of Triumph Choir. Additionally, he was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.
Robert leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife Dawn Kelly Mobley; daughters Nicole and Chandler Mobley; sisters Emily Mobley-Royston (William), Miriam Mobley Smith, and Madeline Mobley-Bresalier (Robert); and nephews Colin, Kyle, Quinn, and Benjamin; cousins; a host of other relatives and close friends.
