

Born in Somerville, MA, the son of the late Marguerite (Patterson) and Hugh Mellen, he lived in New England all of his life.
He was formerly employed as a commercial fish cutter in the New Bedford fishing industry.
Al was a loving father and grandfather. He loved playing cards with his family and having family dinners together.
Proudly served in the US Navy from November 30, 1943 until he was discharged in January 27, 1946 at the rank Machinist 3C. Ron 31 Squadron was one of the units responsible for securing the Islands in the Pacific. His Medals include: WWII Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Philippian Liberation Medal, and Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal- 2stars. He was fondly referred to as Coon Dog by his fellow service men.
Survivors include two sons, Robert P. Conrad, Sr. and his wife Jan, Albert J. Conrad, Jr. and his fiancée Melissa Christy; a daughter, Barbara Barnes and her companion Robert Souza; a brother, Edward Conrad of Nantucket; a sister, Judy Conrad of Cape Cod; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Kenneth W. Conrad, Sr. and Norman W. Conrad and the grandfather of the late Kenneth W. Conrad, Jr. and the brother of the late Dolores Johnson, Hugh Conrad and Hibbert “Tippy” Conrad.
